COURT DECISION ON YUVARLAKÇAY/ CELEBRATION ON SUNDAY

Apologies for not informing our members who do not know Turkish about the latest good news…

 

On 6th of April, the 1st Court of Muğla has given a decision to place an immediate stop on all actions by the company and government institutions as of 30th of March until it brings experts to the area and gives its final decision on whether an environmental assesment report is required before the project could go ahead as planned.

 

The platform has filed a law suit at the end of January against the Governorship of Muğla, who has decided on behalf of the Ministry of Environment & Forestry that the Yuvarlakçay powerplant project didn’t need any environmental assessment report. The Platform believes an environmental assessment is a must for Yuvarlakçay and if done, it will show that the project will devistate the villagers’ lives and the eko-system in the Köyceğiz-Dalyan protection area.

 

This is the first decison by the court and the Platform expects the same decisons from its remaining 14 law suits filed against responsible government institutions and departments.

 

That indeed is welcome as a big relief to all people after 4 months of protest. This Sunday (11 April 2010) supporters will gather at Topgözü to celebrate the decision and you are all welcome to join them.
