Water Rights Protests in South West Turkey

People are protesting AKFEN HES preparations to dam the Yuvarlakcay River in South West Turkey. The hydroelectric plant will divert the natural spring waters with a major impact on the environment and villages along the river. This protest was held on January 2 and 3, 2010, part of continuing actions since the first trees were cut on the site in December 2009. On January 13th, local people stopped more trees from being cut. They are taking legal action against the Turkish holding company. In this video, they speak about their concerns over water rights.
